Diving In: One Shop's Path to Total Maintenance Organization

The Challenge

In general aviation, maintenance is the foundation of flight safety. For maintenance shops, staying organized and accurate isn’t just best practice, it’s essential to keep aircraft flying safely and efficiently.

With more than 23 years in general aviation, Mark Lynn of M&M Services understands those stakes well. Over the years, he’s worked with several maintenance software platforms to help manage day-to-day operations in his shop, most recently AD Toolbox prior to its merger with Tdata to become TBX. When that transition occurred, it initially felt disruptive. “I was frustrated at first when AD Toolbox changed over to TBX. Things were done differently, and that was very frustrating for me,” Lynn says.

That early frustration also reinforced how critical organization and consistency are to Mark’s day-to-daywork. As a small maintenance shop servicing a wide range of aircraft, he needed a system that could manage everything—from aircraft profiles and work orders to AD research, compliance reporting, and documentation—without unnecessary complexity. “Everything from Type Certificate Data Sheets to ADs on appliances to AD compliance reports, I needed all of that in one place,” Lynn says.

"Using TBX, I've achieved really good organization for maintenance, keeping everything straight, everything in line and I have really good records."

The Solution

After speaking with the TBX team, Lynn quickly realized that the platform could support every aspect of his maintenance operation, from day-to-day workflows to invoicing. “TBX has all the features that I need, right on down to the invoicing component of the software,” Lynn says.

Just as important as the platform itself was the hands-on support he received during the transition. Lynn credits the availability and one-on-one guidance from Matt Davison, TBX Account Executive, with helping him fully adopt the system. “What made that transition possible was the availability and willingness of Matt to give me personal help, one-on-one help running through different things,” Lynn says.

With hands-on support from TBX, Lynn was able to organize his business in a way that reflects how maintenance actually happens in his shop. “I relied on Matt to help me organize. He was a sounding board—someone I could ask for advice on the best way to structure things. If a customer brought in an aircraft, we would start there and work down through it. Doing this in TBX, it’s very organized.”

Lynn also relies on TBX to store critical documentation directly with each aircraft. “I upload everything from STCs to 8130s to 337s and component repair documentation. I like being able to upload photos right to the customer’s account, I use that feature quite a bit.”

Other members of the shop se TBX as well, primarily for AD research and compliance reporting, while Lynn manages most logbook records. “My team hasn’t had any problems with it. We’ve worked through questions as they’ve come up.”

The Results

After fully integrating TBX into his daily operations, Lynn now relies on the platform across every part of his operation. “Now, I use all of the features in TBX. I don’t think there’s a feature I don’t use,” says Lynn. TBX serves as the starting point for every job, from aircraft intake and work orders to inspections and compliance. “When you’re doing inspections and annuals, you’re making sure the aircraft conforms to the Type Certificate Data Sheet. Having that information for the engine, airframe, and propeller all in one place is very helpful,” Lynn says.

As a result of using TBX so extensively, Lynn saw immediate improvements in organization, record keeping, and confidence across his maintenance workflow. “Using TBX, I’ve achieved really good organization for maintenance, keeping everything straight, everything in line and I have really good records,” Lynn says.

That level of organization has made TBX central to how M&M Services operates, with Lynn emphasizing the depth of functionality available once users commit to learning the platform. “If you’re going to give TBX a try, I would do what I did, really dive in and learn the software. Take the time, and work with the TBX team when you have questions. There’s a lot of software for what you’re paying.”

“When you're doing inspections and annuals, you're making sure the aircraft conforms to the Type Certificate Data Sheet. Having that information for the engine, airframe, and propeller all in one place is very helpful.”

For Lynn, the value lies in how TBX supports real maintenance work without unnecessary extras. “Everything is there that you need. It’s not a lot of fluff. In terms of straight maintenance, everything you need to run a maintenance shop is there. It’s not lacking at all.”

Ongoing engagement from the TBX team has further reinforced his confidence in the platform. “Matt got me in touch with Jon McLaughlin, the CEO of TBX, and he’s reached out several times to ask real-world questions to better understand how maintenance is actually being done.”

As a result, Lynn has no doubts about continuing with TBX. “There was no hesitation or reservation for me when deciding to keep using TBX,” he says. “I would never consider using any other software. I like what TBX has done.”
