A turbocharger tailpipe doesn’t fail politely. It separates instantly, flooding the engine bay with exhaust and the cockpit with smoke. AD 2023-09-09 finally addresses the truth: the spot-welded design is the problem.

What you need to know:

• 500-Hour Life Limit: Spot-welded couplings are now life-limited. No exceptions.

• The "No-Gap" Rule: If the segments next to the T-bolt touch, the clamp is bottomed out and unairworthy.

• Certified Parts Only: It "looking the same" isn't legal, or safe. Only install aircraft-grade, FAA-approved couplings. Industrial-grade clamps aren't built for the heat and vibration of a 300 hp engine. Part numbers matter.

Pro-Tip:

Never use the clamp to force exhaust alignment. Soft-fit everything first. If you 'pull it in' with torque, you’re baking in the constant stress that triggers crack initiation and metal fatigue.

Stop guessing on life limits and compliance. TBX tracks the hours, the part numbers, and the AD cycles for you.
